Telewest is one of the biggest broadband companies in the United Kingdom. They have a great reputation and an excellent product. They too offer three plans ready for the public. The first plan is the basic plan and with this plan you get a modem, up to 256 kbps, unlimited usage and no restrictions, you always have a free phone line. This plan is great for people who just like to surf the web and nothing too heavy. Some emailing and letter writing are perfect on this plan. This plan also offers internet security. The plan costs £17.99 and £25 for a one time connection fee. But if you sign up for the broadband and the phone service then they will waive the connection charge.

The second plan offers customers 384 kbps, unlimited usage and no restrictions, you get the modem and internet security for free. You will always have a free phone line; this plan is rated at a faster speed than the first. With this plan you get access to online gaming. This plan costs £17.00 a month for the first year and a £25 connection fee if you just take the broadband. Just like the first offer if you take the phone service as well, they will waive the connection fee.

The third plan offers 384 kbps, unlimited usage, no restrictions, free access to online gaming, and free access to blue yonder newspaper groups. You get the modem and internet security at no extra charge. This plan is great for the heavy computer users. This plan costs £35 and a £25 connection fee but like the other plans that can be waived if you get the phone package as well.

1. What is broadband internet?
broadband internet is a high speed connection to the internet which is always on. broadband comes via a separate cable connection meaning that it doesn't tip up your phone line. Telewest blueyonder offers a range of broadband services. Broadband internet access allows a greater amount of information to pass through a 'fatter' cable. This therefore speeds up the delivery of heavy data, such as trailers or music files. Standard dial-up connections are sometimes described as 'narrowband'.

2. What does an 'always on' service mean?
Always on means that broadband is a permanent connection to the internet. A broadband connection lets you access the internet from the minute you switch on your computer. A broadband connection is different to a narrowband connection as you don't need to 'dial up' using a standard modem connection. You can control outgoing and incoming access to your broadband connection if you install personal firewall software.

3. Can I watch my television and use my telephone while using broadband?
Yes. Our service does not tie up your TV connection or phone line.

4. Do I need cable TV to get broadband?
No. You are not required to subscribe to Telewest's cable TV or telephone services.

5. Can I receive your service if my house is not already wired for cable?
Yes, if Telewest's digital cable network is available in your street.

6. Do I have to use Telewest blueyonder as my Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
Yes. When you order any of the Telewest broadband Internet services, blueyonder automatically becomes your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

7. Is it possible to prevent my children from accessing inappropriate material on the web?
Yes. Once you have subscribed, we have a help site from which you can access a program called Cyber Patrol. Cyber Patrol enables you to filter certain websites to different levels of usage for all the users in your family. An trial version of this program is available free of charge.

8. What is a NIC (Network Interface Card)?
A Network Interface Card connects the high-speed modem necessary for broadband to your computer. It is very likely you will be able to connect the broadband modem to your computer via a free USB port in the back of your computer but, if not, you may need a NIC. Check to see if you meet the minimum requirements for broadband internet. If you do need a NIC, they can usually be bought from most high street computer shops, such as PC World.

9. What about security?
We recommend that you use our blueyonder PCguard. This sofware protects your PC against internet nuisances such as viruses, hackers and pop ups etc. PCguard includes pop up blocker, anti-viurus, firewall, anti spyware and parental control). And with blueyonder email you will have protection against email viruses & spam
